Our History in Dutchess County

Big Brothers Big Sisters held its first organizational meeting in 1962; it was then referred to as Big Brothers of Dutchess County. It was not until 1968, however, that the program supported active matches. At that time Big Brothers of Dutchess County was an umbrella agency under Family Counseling Service of Dutchess County (now known as Family Services of Dutchess County).

In 1977 Big Brothers of Dutchess County initiated its own autonomous corporation and Board of Directors separating from Family Services and was know as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dutchess County. In October of 2000 Dutchess County Community Action Agency was awarded the funding to be the sponsoring agency for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dutchess County. The management and operations duties of Big Brothers Big Sisters program were transferred to DCCAA. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dutchess County is a fully affiliated member of the national organization Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
