Site Based Programs

Children between the ages of 6-15 are matched one-to one with a volunteer mentor.  Volunteers are placed on-site or within schools, where they meet with their Littles during or after the school day.  Teachers or other school personnel, refer students who could benefit from adult friendship and support.  Volunteers commit to 1 hour a week at a set time and day, which the volunteer identifies as convenient, for them to meet throughout the school year.  The match meets regularly outside the classroom, on school grounds, in an agreed-upon area.  Activities such as conversations, reading, story writing, academic games and tutoring, help build a strong relationship.

Matches do not meet outside of the school grounds, unless it’s a BBBS event or a school sponsored field trip.  Bigs in the site/school based program are not permitted to transport their Little anywhere, for any reason.  There are opportunities to stay in touch such as pen pals during times when school is not in session.  This will be discussed during orientation at school.
